Child G1 (10 year old male):

Family G: please forgive the lack of personalization. Part of what I have loved about Brunch With A Purpose is using the children's real first names. However, Brunch has grown so much and we're helping some small counties so it would be too obvious to list their real names and I have to protect their confidentiality.

Family G is a mother and a son who were recently reunited after the son was briefly in foster care. He was placed in foster care due to cleanliness issues in the home. It was fairly disastrous but the mother worked really hard to make the environment safe for her son. She was the victim of horrific domestic violence and suffers some brain damage from one incident in particular. Her abuser has since deceased and she lives exclusively off social security survivor benefits. They are about as poor a family as I've seen.

Child G1 is, of the 4 years I've been doing guardian ad litem work, the only child who met me at the door of his foster home, looked me in the eye, and said, "It's very nice to meet you, Susan." This little guy has impeccable manners. He is very hard on himself and is already a little perfectionist.
