Child J1 (6 year old female) and Child J2 (2 year old male):
Family J: again, please forgive the lack of personalization. Part of what I have loved about Brunch With A Purpose is using the children's real first names. However, Brunch has grown so much and we're helping some small counties so it would be too obvious to list their real names and I have to protect their confidentiality.
Family J consists of a grandmother, a grandfather, and two children. This little girl (Child J1) wrote the book on cute. I took her out to eat where they have a real stuffed buffalo and she said, "Isn't he beautiful? I think he'd be even more beautiful out in the wild." That same night I took her out to dinner, it was raining. As we made a mad dash from her front door to my car, she saw several tiny stuffed animals that were out in the rain. She ran over to pick up each one of them and stuffed them in her pockets so they wouldn't be out alone, wet and cold, in the rain. She is very nurturing and has a huge heart. She is also fun, sassy, and an absolute doll. She has lived with her grandparents since she was 6 months old. Her mother is in and out of her life and struggles with addiction. Her father is in prison and she doesn't know him. The family struggles financially. This little girl has almost never had anything new. All of her furniture and clothes are hand-me-downs. She loves all animals but is absolutely obsessed with horses. In fact, she wants to be a horseback riding vet when she grows up so that she can race horses and take care of them. She loves to draw and their house is plastered with her pictures. She is also a very girly girl who loves pink!
Her little brother is a cutie, too. He has been having a really difficult time recently because he is very close to his mom and as she continues to struggle with substance abuse, she is inconsistently involved in his life. He has never met his dad and he was born with his head plates fused together, which required surgery before he was even 3 months old. He loves music, Elmo, dancing and singing. He idolizes his big sister and tries to ride her bike.
