Child K1 (9 year old female), Child K2 (9 year old male), and Child K3 (7 year old male):

Family K: please forgive the lack of personalization. Part of what I have loved about Brunch With A Purpose is using the children's real first names. However, Brunch has grown so much and we're helping some small counties so it would be too obvious to list their real names and I have to protect their confidentiality.

This family like many these days is an extended one living under one roof and now with only one wage earner. The elderly mother, two adult sons and the three children share a small three bedroom home.  Until recently she worked and was able to stagger her schedule with the working son to ensure the children always had one of them at home.  She recently lost her job with no prospects to replace it.  One son is disabled and cannot work but is trying to raise his own son.  The other son is the sole wage earner in the family but required house repairs wiped out the small Christmas savings he had set aside.

Child K1 she is a sweet but quiet girl who is now living with her father for the first time.  She was with her mother and step father for 7 years until Social Services removed her from a very deprived and abusive situation.  Her birth father maintained regular contact and visits with her over the years until her step father got into trouble and disappeared with mother and child. When she was finally located she went to live with her father, grandmother, uncle, half brother and cousin.

Child K2 is an energetic and athletic boy who is also a good student. He loves to play soccer and does well at any game but is limited in those activities in the winter.  He has accepted having a "sister" living in the home even though he had to give up his bedroom.  He really wants Nintendo DS and some sport games for it so he can play indoors (and because school friends all seem to have one)!  He is polite and responsible and will get appropriate monitoring for the use of the Nintendo from his G-ma and Dad.

Child K3 is a cute, polite and lively little boy who also does well in school and has learned to share very limited space with so many.  He also wants a Nintendo DS and some games (non-violent per G-ma and Dad) and will probably learn to use it better than his older "siblings." It will make him feel special being the youngest and should be a good source of supervised entertainment for this quiet and somewhat studious little boy.
