Iris (11 year old female), Evelyn (9 year old female), Alexia (10 year old female), and Alyssa (10 year old female):

Iris and Evelyn are sisters who live with their first cousins, Alexia and Alyssa. This year will be our third year sponsoring this family. Alexia and Alyssa's mother took in Iris and Evelyn when their mother died of cancer and their father could no longer take care of them due to alcoholism. The aunt works insane hours to provide for the girls and makes very little money. She pays close to $800 each month (a large percentage of what she makes) on health insurance for the four girls. She treats all four children as her daughters. Iris and Evelyn have struggled with the passing of their mother and are adapting to living with their aunt and cousins. Their aunt reports that the girls are coming a long way in learning to be more open and trusting. Alexia takes a leadership role and is always making sure that the four girls are following the household rules and helping her mother. She is very loving and welcomed her cousins with open arms. Alyssa loves to paint, jump around, and be with her family. She, too, welcomed her cousins into her home and loves sharing her room and clothes with them. Last year their aunt came to our house to pick up the gifts and she was completely overwhelmed when she saw all the clothes on the dining room table. She didn't realize that everything on the sofa was for her girls, too, and when I pointed that out, she burst into tears and gave me the longest hug! She is truly so humbled by and grateful for your generosity.
