Kirsten (10 year old female) and Nevaeh (3 year old female):

This is our 2nd year sponsoring Kirsten and Nevaeh. I used to be their guardian ad litem and have to say that they are two of the sweetest, cutest, smartest little girls that I've worked with! They live with their grandparents and their mother. Their mother has struggled with addiction really throughout their whole lives. But, she went to treatment and has been sober for almost a year! This family struggles financially and was so grateful for our help last year that they were some of the first people I thought of for this year's Brunch With A Purpose. When I received the referral forms (which ask parents/guardians to be as specific as possible about their children's wish lists, the family included coupons and pictures of the items to help us out. They're really sweet people.

My favorite story about Kirsten is the story I wrote last year on our site. I took her to lunch and she said very matter-of-factly, "Susan, I'm starting to think Santa isn't real." When asked why in the world she would say that she said, "well, when I turn my toys over they say 'made in China' on the bottom." So of course, we discussed how Santa has lots of Chinese elves helping him to make all of his toys. She's a doll! Kirsten is so excited about Christmas this year because her mom is able to be with her and they can celebrate together. Kirsten is really into science and loves to learn about planets, stars, and she loves to watch the stars at night. She's a girly girl who loves to get her nails done, she adores clothes and shoes, and is a big fan of Justin Bieber.

Nevaeh is a little cutie who adores her big sister and loves to learn about shapes, colors, letters, and numbers. She loves for Kirsten to read to her and they play school together. She loves to read, sing songs, listen to music, and dance with her baby dolls. She's very into Mickey Mouse and likes to do the "hot dog dance"! She takes after her sister in being a girly girl and is already into shoes and clothes. She, too, is ecstatic to have her mom back home.
