Refugee 1 (15 year old male), Refugee 2 (15 year old female), Refugee 3 (18 year old female),  Refugee 4 (15 year old female), Refugee 5 (15 year old male), and Refugee 6 (10 year old female):

I have been doing GAL (guardian ad litem) work for about four years and have seen some sad stories. However, these four children have had the most horrific paths that I have ever seen.

Refugees 1, 2 and 3 are African refugees and are what we refer to as URM (Unaccompanied Refugee Minor) cases.  Their lives are very similar to the children in the documentary, "The Lost Boys." Their parents have been massacred in front of their very eyes, their families torn apart, and they have been forced to flee on foot for hundreds of miles to refugee camps in neighboring countries. These three children, however, have found their new home in Colorado. You would absolutely not believe how resilient they are. They do not celebrate Christmas but Brunch With A Purpose is, to me, way more about taking care of children in the System than it is about Christmas.  Refugee 1 has been in the US for over a year, but just got to Colorado in August. Refugees 2 and 3 just got to the US from their refugee camp LAST WEEK! They are having a really hard time because they were separated from their other sister when fleeing violence and do not know if she is ok or where she is. They each came with about 2 summer outfits and arrived to a blizzard in Denver. They are in a fabulous foster home (as is Refugee 1). Their foster parents raced out and bought them snow boots but that is all they have. They desperately need winter clothes!

Refugee 4 is a rescued victim of human sex trafficking. I will spare you the details but cannot even imagine her path. She is very sweet, has the kindest and brightest eyes, and only a 5th grade education. She wants to be a sheriff when she grows up.

Refugees 5 and 6 just arrived from Haiti.  I do not yet know what their needs are but we will definitely be sponsoring everything they need.

Refugee 1's Wish List:

Indoor Soccer League fees ($575- covers soccer registration and fees from Nov. to June): He is an excellent soccer player and actually has been asked to play for both JV and Varsity at his school! Soccer is a big outlet for him and this is really the only thing he wants. I know it's expensive but there is no way his foster family can afford it and he arrived too late to apply for a scholarship.
